Join the discussion on Kona Coffee: | | America's favorite coffee.. results are in. What's your favorite? | | My personal favorite is Folgers 100% Colombian. I was reading on AOL and they did a poll in the US, so here's the results. But what I want to know, is which do you prefer? Or maybe espresso? What is you favorite brand or coffee style? No. 9 (Tie) -- Café Bustelo ( I use this brand when making Cuban Coffee for my husband!!)
Known as the poor man's gourmet coffee, it was originally founded by Gregario Bustelo in 1920s New York City. This deep-roasted, espresso-style coffee long-popular in Hispanic markets has made inroads among mainstream retail chains under the ownership of Rowland Coffee Roasters -- a.k.a. the Souto family -- whose coffee roots stretch back to 1800s Cuba.
A 10oz package can cost as low as $1.99 in the U.S., and yet it's finished in a million-dollar Italian-designed roaster.
No. 9 (Tie) -- Newman's Own Coffee
The popular but pricey Newman organics brand, which includes a range of products from salad dressing to pet food, packages Vermont's locally roasted Green Mountain Coffee, Inc.
In addition to organic growth processes, the coffee beans purchased for roasting are Fair Trade Certified. A 10-oz. bag of Newman's Special Blend runs about $7.50, but the name...
| | damn you | | I've never been a very big coffee girl. There's something about spending $4 for caffeine that annoys me, so it's usually a special treat that I do on the very rare occasion. I have quite a few chuckles at the expense of my friends who were addicted to their regular beverages, all while sipping my Diet Vanilla Black Cherry Coke. (F**k you, Coke, for discontinuing Vanilla Coke in the US!)
A few weeks back, when school was closed for a few weeks between the summer and fall sessions, I had to take my group to the downtown library to get in their computer time. Being that the library doesn't open until 10 AM and us being on an early schedule, we were arriving at about 1/2 hour before the doors opened. On the corner near the library was a Barfucks, as my friend Anthony is so fond of referring to Starbucks.
I would grimace when I saw the line of people from the outside crawling inward and wonder why people were so willing to wait in order to pay so much for coffee. I'd had Starbucks coffee in the past and wasn't all that impressed with it. (Once you've had Kona coffee from Hawaii, all others pale in comparison.) Yet one morning I was feeling parched and opted to get in that line....
| | What's your favorite coffee flavor? | | I like a strong bold French Roast every morning. I also like a bold Sumatra. I still would like to try 100% Kona coffee. (I've only had blends so far) You can order some online, but it's quite expensive. | |
| | What is your favorite bean? | | I would have to say that mine would be from Kona.Kona coffee is my favorite thing to wake up to (besides my girlfriend and a cigarette).I usually pour about 3/4 cup Kona, and a quarter cup of milk with a splash of vanilla creamer. Whats your favorite bean and how do you like it? | |
