Join the discussion on Home Coffee Roaster:| Home coffee roasting | | How many people do their own roasting? I picked up a Fresh Roast Plus 8 roaster & began ordering green coffee beans from Sweet Marias. I used to drink a lot of coffee (about 2-3 12-cup pots/day) before getting into the espresso/capucino/latte stuff. Now I drink just plain coffee made in a french press. Tried going back to the Starbucks & similar stores...very quickly realized you really do get a much better cup when the coffee is fresh. Ordering in bulk (10 pounds or more) also saved quite a bit of money...green beans keep 2 years or more so I just roast enough for 2-3 days at a time. | |
| | Work Coffee vs. Home Coffee. | | I have to get up rather early to get to work on time. Before I started with this job, I would drink coffee occasionally at home, more as a treat than to wake up in the morning. Now that I work, there are days where I will drink up to and over three cups throughout the morning. Now that I have become accustomed to the coffee at work, the coffee at home does not quite taste right anymore, and I prefer what I drink at work over what I drink here. I actually find that I do not like to drink coffee at home that often, period. Does anyone else have this problem? | |
| | Home Coffee Roasting | | I've been roasting my own beans for about ten years and can no longer imagine drinking coffee made from anything but freshly roasted, freshly ground, beans. I've tried several different roasters, but my favorite was a Behmor 1600. Unfortunately, it is no longer working, so I'm using a basket that was made for me, for use with my rotisserie setting on my toaster oven. This actually does work quite well, although it takes more monitoring than a roaster set up with profiles.I roast almost all of my beans to a dark roast and, when I make flavored coffees, I use all natural ingredients, rather than purchased flavorings. I often give home roasted beans to coffee drinking friends as gifts for various occasions. The hands-down favorite is my Spiced Mocha Espresso Blend.Spiced Mocha Espresso Blend12-ounce each (green coffee beans):

| | Which at home coffee machine is the best? | | My husband will buy me a coffee machine but i'm not sure which one to get. My friend suggested a Delonghi one because it has a grinder incorporated into the machine, which cuts down on buying a grinder separately, therefore saving me about $100, but that kind is much more expensive. Which one do you have? Which do you recommend? Also, what brand of coffee do you use for your coffee machine? | |
| | What is the best type of brew at home coffee? | | I am new to brewing coffe at home, and have been experimenting with different flavors. I generally like strong flavor, because I add a lot to the coffee. I've tried a Columbian roast, and that was pretty good, Folgers I think. At home right now, I have Folger's Chocolate Silk, and it smells better that it tastes, but its still good. What kind of coffee do you brew at home? What's your favorite kind to have at home? | |
| | | What do you prefer drinking, coffee, coffee with milk or milk only..? | | Every time I wake up, I always drink coffee (black coffee)..If there is no coffee, then I prefer having milk..When I feel thirsty, I also drink coffee..haha, it seems that i have been addicted to it (I hope not)..I used to drink milk when I was a kid, but now it seems that drinking a combination of milk and coffee is better..You, what do you prefer in drinking (either in office or at home), coffee, milk, or a combination of milk and coffee..? | |
| | Cafe D is now open for business! | | I'm very excited. I finally broke down and bought a new coffee maker yesterday. My old one was in bad shape, and I rarely used it, which means I hadn't used my lovely coffee grinder in ages. I was just drinking instant out of convenience, laziness, and finances.I am just one person, so making coffee for 12 seemed rather silly. My new coffee maker is a cool stainless steel four cup Cuisinart. It's got that brilliant auto shut off so I don't burn my house down. And, best of all, I can now grind my own beans again! I'm in heaven!Talk to me about your at home coffee habits. Do you grind and brew? Do you just brew? Are you an instant kind of person? Or, do you just not bother and hit the local Starbucks or Tim Horton's?Talk to me!ent Estate
